Setup Guide

How to set up
your receiver

  1. Download the Windows installer from the download section above.
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts. The receiver installs as a background application.
  3. Launch ComboKey Receiver from the Start Menu or system tray.
  4. The receiver appears in your system tray. It broadcasts its presence on your local network automatically.
  5. On your phone, open the ComboKey Controller app. Your computer should appear in the device list.
  6. Tap to pair. A pairing code appears on both screens. Confirm to connect.
  7. You are ready to control your PC from your phone.
Windows driver: If you plan to use Gamepad mode, you may need to install the ViGEmBus driver. The receiver will prompt you on first use.
  1. Download the macOS DMG from the download section above.
  2. Open the DMG and drag ComboKey Receiver to your Applications folder.
  3. Launch the app. macOS may show a security prompt — click Open.
  4. The receiver needs Accessibility permission to send keyboard and mouse events. You will be prompted to enable it in System Settings.
  5. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable ComboKey Receiver.
  6. Restart the receiver. The status should show permission: ready.
  7. On your phone, open the ComboKey Controller app and pair with your Mac.
Tip: If the receiver does not appear on your phone, check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and no firewall is blocking LAN multicast.
Beta: Linux support is in active development. Some features may not work on all distributions.
  1. Download the AppImage, .deb, or .rpm package from the download section above.
  2. AppImage: Make it executable with chmod +x combokey-receiver.AppImage and run it.
  3. .deb: Install with sudo dpkg -i combokey-receiver.deb.
  4. .rpm: Install with sudo rpm -i combokey-receiver.rpm.
  5. The receiver requires access to /dev/uinput for keyboard and mouse input. Add your user to the input group: sudo usermod -aG input $USER.
  6. Log out and back in for the group change to take effect.
  7. Launch the receiver. It should appear in your system tray or as a terminal process.
  8. On your phone, open the ComboKey Controller app and pair with your Linux machine.
Known issues: Gamepad mode requires uinput kernel module. Some Wayland compositors may not support global input injection. X11 is recommended for full functionality.
Beta: Android TV support requires sideloading or manual APK installation. A Play Store listing is planned.
  1. Download the APK from the download section above.
  2. Transfer the APK to your Android TV device via USB drive, cloud storage, or the Send files to TV app.
  3. On your Android TV, open a file manager and navigate to the APK. Tap to install. You may need to enable Install unknown apps in Settings.
  4. Launch ComboKey Receiver from your apps list.
  5. Enable the ComboKey Accessibility Service in Settings → Accessibility. This allows the receiver to send navigation commands.
  6. Optionally, enable the ComboKey IME in Settings → Keyboard for text input support.
  7. On your phone, open the ComboKey Controller app and pair with your Android TV.
Compatibility: Tested on Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV emulator. OEM devices may have varying accessibility support. See the GitHub repository for the latest compatibility notes.
